NYC MARATHON 2025

2025 TCS New York City Marathon Charity Team

Nadira Jegroo

New York

As a native New Yorker, running the NYC marathon has been a dream, I did not think I would ever see come true. My fitness and wellness journey did not begin until I was in my mid to late twenties. Running has provided me with an outlet to improve my physical and mental health while developing a community of supportive, likeminded people. One of the things that held me back from being more active growing up was not having the right sports bra. As I got older, I began to play with different bras and styles to learn what worked for my body and provided the support I needed to stay active. Bras for Girls goal of normalizing body development and providing access to bras and education is a cause close to my heart and I am excited for the opportunity to run for them.

Sutton, WV

Despite running on and off all my life, I never loved running until I decided to learn to do it properly. This lead me to start from scratch and learn what worked for me. After a couple of years of being a casual runner who never wanted to race, I began working at a Fleet Feet in New York City where I learned the ins and outs of gear, apparel, and what helped runners of all types feel comfortable during their workouts. It was while working there during the marathon that I decided that I wanted to run a marathon and NYC became my dream. After moving back to West Virginia, I signed up for and ran the Philadelphia Marathon. I had a blast! The run specialty store where I currently work in Appalachia also provides shoes and gear to our little underserved community and that’s why it’s an honor to be a part of the Bras for Girls team. Their mission in providing the right gear so that those who want to play the sport or run the race can. I know firsthand working with runners and being a bra wearer myself how crucial good support is to comfort and sustainability as an athlete. Helping girls fall in love with sports and sharing the joy of getting outside, feeling strong, and supported is what Bras for Girls and now I’m able to do. It’s an honor to be a part of this team and this race.

Elise Morris

Seattle/NY

Elise is recently retired from playing professional soccer abroad, and is now working with the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence on the expansion of TeamUp Washington - a sports-based sexual violence prevention program for young athletes across the state. Throughout her athletic career, Elise was awarded All-American, D-III LGBTQ+ Student-Athlete of the Year, D3CA Women’s Student-Athlete of the Year, NCAA top-30 Women of the Year, and played in the top divisions in Europe for Women's Football. Since retiring, Elise has been redefining her relationship to athletics, and although her career brought her success, the most impactful moments were those that promoted social change. Now that she is back in the US full-time, Elise is thrilled for the opportunity to embrace her identity as a lifelong athlete, and use sports as a platform to promote healthy and positive cultures. Whether it be through her Non Profit ‘CHAMP The Culture’, partnering with Bras For Girls, or continuing her violence prevention efforts in Washington State, Elise is vigorously building the world she wants to be a part of. Although this is Elise’s first marathon, she knows this message and the support of her community will push her across the finish line no problem :)

Angela is a life long swimmer, runner and triathlete.  In addition to that, her greatest life accomplishments are her four children- one daughter, and three sons.  Angela has run over 15 marathons, some as part of her 5 Ironman Finishes (an ironman is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 bike and a marathon).

During her career, Angela has balanced her work in strategy and program management in large, multinational corporations as well as local non-profit organizations in Milwaukee Wisconsin.  She was a founding board member of the Milwaukee Chapter of Girls on the Run®, an organization dedicated to enhancing girls' social, emotional, and leadership skills through completing a 5k run. The experience of giving back while developing an organization with mission and purpose has been fundamental to her ongoing community involvement.   A champion for women in industry and sport, Angela's advocacy began with her participation in the first class of women's collegiate swimming at Georgia Tech under Title IX. She is a USAT Certified Coach and a USA Triathlon Foundation Ambassador, promoting youth participation and advocating for inclusive opportunities.

This opportunity, to run the NYC Marathon (her second time), while giving back to Bras For Girls seemed like the perfect blend of passion and sport.  Having run the streets of New York before, she can attest that this is one of the best Marathons to run!!  The energy and excitement should push all Bras For Girls runners to one of their best days!

Katie Heckman

Pittsburgh

I have been an athlete my whole life! From competing as a multi-varsity sport athlete in high school, to my collegiate athletic career, to competing internationally as an adult, I have always put sports as a high priority for myself. Of course, athletics is paramount to my mental and physical health, but as an adult I have found that my participation in athletics plays a key role in setting a positive example to the people around me. My son, Connor, is an emerging young athlete, and I am excited to have another opportunity to show him that hard work and dedication leads to success. I cannot wait to make him proud by finishing the New York City Marathon, which is my first full marathon as a Mom! I am also so thrilled to participate in the philanthropic opportunity that running the NYC Marathon provides! Bras for Girls is setting an incredible example and opportunity for young women everywhere and I am honored to participate in advancing this mission. LET’S GOOOOOO!

Erica Anderson

Los Angeles

The last marathon Erica ran was the 2013 Boston Marathon—yes, the tragic one marked by the bombings. She crossed the finish line before the explosions and reunited safely with her group, but that day changed her life forever. That story is for another time.

Today is about a new chapter. Erica is lacing up her shoes for her fourth marathon—her third NYC Marathon—running for an incredible cause, Bras For Girls! A lifelong athlete and fitness enthusiast, she's passionate about getting girls involved in sports. Her first professional role was at Oakley, managing the Women’s Brand, where she saw firsthand how access to sports equipment and gear impacts girls' participation in athletics.

Now a Film Executive in Los Angeles, Erica has over 18 years of marketing experience across retail, action sports, and entertainment. Throughout her career, she’s remained committed to advocating for women in sports and also the LGBTQ+ community. As an openly queer woman and passionate advocate, her mission remains clear: to create inclusive spaces where everyone feels seen, supported, and empowered. And have fun doing it! NYC or bust…

Jess Barnard

Seattle

Hi, I’m Jess! I’m a photographer, retired steeplechaser for Team Philippines, and Executive Director of the Women’s Running Coaches Collective (WRCC). This November, I’ll be running my second marathon—once again proudly representing Team Bras for Girls at the NYC Marathon!

Last year’s race was one of the most incredible, transformative experiences of my life. I signed up thinking it’d be a one-time thing—but crossing that finish line, surrounded by thousands of people moving with joy, purpose, healing, and connection? It changed everything. It reminded me just how much this sport—and this cause—mean to me.

As someone whose life was shaped and saved by sport, I believe deeply in Bras for Girls’ mission. This year, I’m back to run and fundraise because every girl deserves to feel supported, literally and figuratively, as she moves through the world and chases what lights her up. Thank you for cheering our team on, believing in the power of sport, and helping us rewrite the story for the next generation of girls in athletics!

Katie Winslow

New York

As an avid runner and NYC resident, there is no better day of the year than Marathon Sunday. I am excited to run my second NYC Marathon with team Bras for Girls. Growing up, sports were a huge part of my life and helped mold me into who I am today. From helping build confidence, to leadership and teamwork skills, to healthy habits, sports are an instrumental part of childhood development, especially in young girls. I am inspired by Bras for Girls mission to reduce barriers for girls in sports and provide education around breast development, and I am honored to be a part of this team. Huge shout out to Vita Coco for all the support along the way!

Emily Kiernan

Atlanta

My name is Emily Kiernan and I am an Emergency Medicine Physician who specializes in Medical Toxicology and Addiction Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta GA. I competed in track & field at Allegheny College, numerous intramural sports in medical school and residency (and still today), and became an avid distance runner during medical school. I ran the Boston Marathon in 2013 and had planned to run the NYC Marathon that same year. However, the events that transpired that day led me to take a personal hiatus from running. However, I have come back to running and since have completed 2 marathons, multiple half marathons, and other road races! When I’m not working or running, I enjoy being a cool aunt and a dog mom to two beautiful German Shepards.

I am so excited to run with this amazing team representing Bras for Girls. Together, we can support young women to lead healthy, active lives!

Atsuko Tamura

Seattle

Atsuko is running her second-ever marathon to raise money for Bras for Girls, where she also serves as Board Treasurer. This incredible nonprofit helps make sure girls have the gear, support, and confidence they need to stay in sports—and Atsuko’s all in. With a background as a competitive swimmer and coach, and career stops like CFO & VP of Finance at REI, CEO of evo, and President of Oiselle, she’s always been about building strong communities and lifting others up. Now she’s taking that energy to the pavement—running not just for the finish line, but for every girl who deserves to play, grow, and belong in sports. Every donation helps her go the distance. Let’s do this—together.

Shayla Dvorak

Shaker Heights, OH

I have been participating in sport for as long as I can remember and I completed my first half marathon in 2007! But before that, my first love was basketball - playing H-O-R-S-E. with my uncle in the driveway or practicing dribbling and shots on my own. I distinctly remember in 5th grade when I went shopping for my first sports bra. Back then, sports bras were cotton and some elastic and my little sister, proud as can be, patted me on the back while checking out and proclaimed, “this is my sister’s first sports bra!” I was mortified! But that bra, a simple purchase, kept me feeling confident in playing the sports I loved. I found track & field in middle and high school, and in college, I fell in love with the sport of rowing. I competed for 4 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on the varsity rowing team. There I really learned to love the process of training and since have run a few marathons and ultras and many half marathons. I fell in love with the New York City Marathon in 2018 while spectating and have been hoping to run it since. I am thrilled to be running with Bras for Girls this year and raising money to get more girls into sports bras and keep them in sport as well!
